This year, Qatar is buzzing with excitement over Expo 2023 Doha, set to be a remarkable event in the country. Positioned as the first A1 international horticultural exhibition in the Middle East and North Africa, this iconic event will take place at Al Bidda Park for a six-month duration. With the support of Prime Minister HE Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and the Ministry of Municipality (MoM), the International Horticultural Exhibition 2023 Doha aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, making it a significant milestone for the nation.

What is the Expo 2023 about? 

Expo 2023 Doha spans a period of 179 days (about 6 months) and an impressive area of 1.7 million square meters at Doha’s iconic, lush-green Al Bidda Park, overlooking the Arabian Gulf. Over 80 countries are expected to participate in Expo 2023 which will attract 3 million visitors. 

The exhibition will consist of beautifully landscaped gardens, talks and conferences, art, and cuisine. Visitors and participants can explore the possibilities of a greener future and view pavilions by participant countries along with a host of other activities centered around the Expo’s theme.  

What is the theme of Expo 2023? 

Expo 2023 Doha’s theme is “Green desert, better environment” which covers the topic of innovative mitigative solutions for desertification. The theme of the exhibition is centered around harnessing the latest technologies and horticultural solutions, raising awareness, and taking steps towards a greener desert with a sustainable approach.  

Things to explore at Expo 2023 Doha 

The Expo 2023 Doha, spanning 6 months of exhibition, is equipped with various facilities and features designed to accommodate the event's various needs. Al Bidda is divided into three zones which include the International Area, Family Area, and Cultural Area. 

The Congress Center will be the epicenter of all VIP delegations and official expo conferences. This will be the venue for forging connections and new partnerships alongside the exchange of innovative ideas.  

All short and long-term exhibitions will occupy the 7,500 sqm of prime space called the Exhibition Center. Indoor gardens will be hosted inside the temperature-controlled and lighting-adjusted Indoor Domes for careful preservation and maintenance.  

The Grandstand area is where 5,000 people can convene and watch performances by regional and international artists. There is a special Family Amphitheater set up for hosting family and child-friendly edutainment shows and fun activities.  

There is also a dedicated space for the Environment Center & Biodiversity Museum which will showcase various aspects of regional flora & fauna, marine life, renewable energy technologies, climate change statistics and more.  

You can explore the diverse range of artisanal and handmade products from various participant countries at the Cultural Bazaar, which serves as the perfect marketplace. A Farmer’s Market is also a part of the Expo’s many unique experiences where you can shop from and support local businesses, and buy produce from international pavilions. 

The Sponsor Area will host activities and special programs that are inspired by the Expo’s themes and sub-themes.  

National Day celebrations are set to take place at different international pavilions through a flag-raising ceremony, cultural shows, musical performances and events. 

The Food Kiosks area will provide visitors with a taste of regional and international flavors as several food and beverage stalls will offer global cuisines for the public to savor. 

The Expo 2023 Doha is also currently inviting Qatar residents and citizens to volunteer for the event.
